With most Skylights currently on the market today claiming to acheive the same result makes choosing one for your home a confusing process. For that reason we've made the choice easier using our 30 years experience to narrow down the very best time tested products available.
The circular skylight is the most cost effective solution for lighting requirements where a modern unobtrusive ceiling fitting is required and a roof space exists for a tunnel or tube to direct outside light from roof level to the ceiling and room below. The tunnel or tube is generally constructed of a highly reflective flexible tube or a highly reflective mirror aluminium rigid tube. The flexi tube is by far the most cost effective and practical solution available today.
In Western Australia the need for rigid tube that is 98% to 99% reflective is not often required unless the roof space distance is over 3 metres, or unless for a commercial/retail property and wish to reduce or eliminate lighting costs. The rigid tube offers a fantastic solution for extra large roof spaces or where high intensity lighting is required, but is more expensive than flexi tube.
Square and rectangular skylights tend to be considered 'old' technology because as a whole are not as reflective or as efficient in their light transfer as tubular skylights and therefore require larger sizes to transfer the light needed and will increase heat loading in some cases.
Square and rectangular skylights more labour intensive to install and use more materials than tubular skylights. They also require two site visits, one to measure up then another for the installation and is the reason they cost more. Square and rectangular skylights are still a completely viable option where a decorative timber frame or lead light feature is chosen. They look fantastic with cathedral, raked ceilings and are an obvious choice for any structures with exposed beam rafters.
Which ever skylight product you decide is best suited, you can rest assured that all our skylight products are manufactured and installed to Australian Standards.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much extra light will a skylight give me?
There is no standard answer because of the variables that affect the performance of any skylight, such as the time of year, time of day, throat size, length of shaft, dome orientation on the roof, room size, wall colours and general décor. Plus general weather and ambient light conditions always affect the end result.
Does heat come through a skylight?
Some heat may want to come through the skylight because heat and light are directly related. Our experience indicates there is no appreciable Heat Gain or Loss in normal circumstances. Metro Skylights & Roofing Services always supplies clients with an installation to deliver the right amount of light needed with minimal heat transfer. There are several options to provide more insulation from heat such as double glazed domes and ceiling panels.
Will my skylight leak?
No, our products are guaranteed against leaking. A Warranty is issued with every skylight, and Metro Skylights & Roofing Services will guarantee the installation against any leaking.
What Warranty will my skylight have?
7 years manufacturers warranty on all products. The warranties vary throughout the range, please refer to our brochures for more specific product warranty information.
Does my interior colour scheme affect the performance of my skylight?
Yes it does, light bright colours will tend to reflect daylight around the room while dark colours will tend to absorb daylight. Adjusting the size or quantity will help to solve this problem.
Can I turn off daylight or moonlight in a bedroom?
Yes, a variable light control unit is available.
Can I have an electric light in my skylight?
Yes, an electric light is available.
Can I have ventilation with my skylight?
