OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND
Ventilation is possibly one of the most overlooked cost effective addition to your home that guarantees energy efficiency on a number of fronts. The best thing about solar or wind powered ventilation is that it utilises natures own elements and costs nothing to run.
A solar powered ventilator will be in a league of its own in these conditions but even with wind driven ventilators you’ll still have a 25% cooler roof cavity than a house with out any ventilators.
ABOUT ROOF TYPES
PITCHED ROOF SPACE VENTILATION
Pitched roof spaces build up extreme levels of heat in Perth’s summer months and directly transfer this heat to the rooms below. Having any heat build up in your roof cavity is detrimental the efficiency of all ducted air conditioning systems.
All solar powered and wind driven ventilators will only reduce your roof space temperature down to the outside ambient temperature which doesn’t seem much, however this will reduce running costs of all air conditioners. More importantly, as night falls, temperatures drop so adequate roof ventilation will help the home cool down far quicker at night.
The benefits of having roof ventilators is not only for the summer months. During winter the airflow they provide reduces condensation protecting roof timbers by keeping them dry and healthy. The effect of having dry roof timbers is that roof rot and mould is eliminated before it starts, extending the life of the roof structure.
CATHEDRAL & RAKED CEILINGS
If your home has a ceiling that follows the roof angle with little or no roof space you’ll require the ventilator to be directly connected to a vent register in the ceiling inside the home that can be opened or closed. This type of ceiling can become extremely hot in summer and we have very effective systems that can be installed to combat this problem.
DOMESTIC ROOF VENTILATION SOLUTIONS
SOLAR POWERED ROOF VENTILATION
The Green Vent Solar 30 Watt ventilator is without doubt the Rolls Royce of powered roof ventilation. On extremely hot days when there is no wind this unit is a powerhouse for extracting heat from the roof space. Powered by a 30 Watt solar panel driving a powerful quiet 38 Volt DC motor through the day.
Not only daytime ventilation but at night a digital controller switches the unit to cycle on and off running the fan motor via an 18 Volt transformer connected to a general power outlet in the roof.
The Green Vent is the perfect choice for large roof spaces and when the most effective ventilation is required.

WIND DRIVEN ROOF VENTILATORS
We have been installing these timeless classics the Supa Vent and Turbo Beam ventilators for over 20 years now. These vents are chosen because of their strength, appearance and time tested reliability. The Supa Vent and the Turbo Beam are the same ventilator the only difference is the Supa Vent comes in colours to match the roof and the Turbo Beam comes in clear to provide light to the roof space which is handy for storage of items in the attic.
Most homes will require 2 units. More may be required if the home is larger than a three bedroom one bathroom or has more than one ridge line on the roof.
More information can be found in the Supavent and the Turbobeam brochures. For all other enquiries please contact Metro Skylights & Roofing Services direct.
ROOM AIR ECHANGE
The Vent-A-Room system is a fantastic solution for stuffy rooms, offices, laundries and any wet areas that require air flow or air exchange. The wind driven Supa Vent is connected via a flexible duct directly to the room below with a neat adjustable circular ceiling vent which exchanges the air from inside the room to the outside.

COMMERCIAL ROOF VENTILATION SOLUTIONS
Industrial buildings typically have no ceilings and contain large volumes of air, often trapped with no facility for escape. Production efficiency, comfort of workers and storage of temperature sensitive equipment and goods can be adversely affected in summer months.
Large evaporative roof mounted air conditioners that have large ducts channeling cool air below stop being efficient when the air above them is constantly being heated by the hot roof.
The Green Vent Wind Industrial Ventilators are the most reliable solution to a multitude of commercial applications from an air change in a factory or where actual air movement can be felt on the skin. The number and size of vents needed depend on the volume of air to be exhausted and the speed at which this is done.
